AirCheck data from the last three months (1 May – 31 July) sees ‘Thousand Miles’ by The Kid Laroi crowned as the top song by a local artist on radio.
CADA led the charge with 443 spins, while Nova 106.9 was close behind with 441. Despite ranking No. 1 on the list, ‘Thousand Miles’ was the top local song in only three markets (Melbourne, Gold Coast, Newcastle).
National broadcaster triple j and community station FBi Radio posted the highest percentage of local music on their playlists. Both stations played more than 50% Australian content.
Triple M averaged 32.1% Australian music across the network. Vance Joy’s ‘Clarity’, Dean Lewis’ ‘Hurtless’, Birds Of Tokyo’s ‘Smith Street’, Daniel Johns’ ‘Where Do We Go?’ and INXS’ ‘Need You Tonight’ comprised the network’s Top 5 songs.
Independent record labels outshone the majors, contributing five entries in the Top 10. Indies notched 38.2% market share, spearheaded by Vance Joy, Supafly & De Funk, Shouse and Jolyon Petch.
