Spotlight on 2Day FM

New music, more Aussies — inside 2Day FM’s major playlist overhaul

In March 2025, 2Day FM unveiled a bold new direction — promising to play more new music than any other commercial station in Sydney, with a renewed focus on supporting Australian artists. But has the station delivered?

RCS Media Monitors took a deep dive into 2Day FM’s playlist to find out — and the data tells a clear story.

The shift began in December 2024, when the station’s local content unexpectedly jumped to 21.84% (6am–12am), up from just 12.44% the month before. That momentum continued into the new year, with Australian music averaging 24.75% across the first half of 2025 and peaking at 27.52% in April.

Homegrown hits like CYRIL & maryjo’s ‘Still Into You’, Sonny Fodera & Clementine Douglas’ ‘Tell Me’, and Tobiahs’ ‘Angel Of Mine’ lead the way.

Notably, 35.79% of the Aussie music aired since the rebrand has come from fully independent acts or artists signed to indie labels — outpacing the share of all three major labels.

And it’s not just more local music — 2Day FM is playing more music overall. Since the start of the year, overall spins are up for each month in comparison to the same period last year.
